2021 Meeting

Location: Stellenbosch, South Africa
Dates: 5–10 September 2021 (postponed from 2020)
Website: http://isce2020.com

The ISCE 2021 Organizing Committee has announced that the 36th annual ISCE meeting and associated symposia will take place from 5–10 September 2021 in Stellenbosch / Cape Town, South Africa. This meeting was originally due to take place from 6–11 September 2020 at the University of Stellenbosch, but postponed due to the pandemic.

We have made progress planning a hybrid meeting, structured as a virtual meeting that can accommodate in-person attendees. We have booked a venue in the Stellenbosch area (Hazendal) and have right of first refusal if another group tries to book same dates. This allows us to delay making a decision about the in-person component of the meeting until a few months from now. Hopefully things look better globally and the in-person component is possible and members are able to commit to travel. The virtual meeting platform we are considering is called FLOOR. In-person attendees can give talks live, but these will be recorded from a lectern on site and incorporated into the virtual meeting.

We are unable to progress much further without a program. We have extended the deadline until end of March for abstract submission, available on the official meeting website. We will not be asking for registration fees until May/June, but we do need participants to submit abstracts ASAP so we can move forward and plan training sessions and tutorials for speakers and delegates with the software.

In-person fees are still under consideration, but we are planning to set registration for virtual participation at a flat fee of $100 USD (i.e., no subscribing for only a portion of the meeting). The virtual meeting is not in doubt and will happen. If the situation re: international travel improves enough in the next couple of months, and delegates wish to attend and participate in-person, this too can be accommodated.

If you have not already done so, please take the time to submit an abstract. There will be a meeting 5-10 September, 2021, and you will be able to participate either virtually or in-person. For more the most current information about the meeting, please see the official meeting website.
